This is from my response to a writing group on “Self-Reflection” at the day treatment program I go to.
The prompt was:
Do you think there is a secret to success?
How would you describe success?
This is what I wrote:
Success is discerning what God wants you to do and doing it, discerning what God wants you to be and being that. God created each one of us and knows us each completely in all our uniqueness. He planned each of us with a special mission. Not a single one of us is without a purpose.
When a person seeks out with all their heart the plan and mission God gave them, that is when that person begins to succeed in life.
I have a goal of finding a good job as a writer. I also intend to write a book this year. I think I will succeed at these goals because I think they are what God wants me to do. I have tried other things and failed because they were not what God wanted me to do.
If God wants you to do something, He will give you everything you need to do it.
God gives us each unique gifts to utilize in doing His will. Different people have different gifts, and when they work together, combining their unique abilities, people can do amazing things together that they could not do alone.
When we all discover and develop our unique gifts and use them to do what God wants us to do, wonderful, amazing, beautiful things begin to happen. That is the epitome of success.
