A Dream of Mine: Homeless Assistance Centers

An addition to Boots on the Ground.

I just wanted to introduce that little story of those little acts of charity today to bring up an idea for a sort of dream of mine.  First off, a prayer request.  I think God wants me to find ways to make money by writing.  I want to write about various subjects, but one of them is on charity to the poor and homeless.  In this cold weather, I think of the homeless frequently.  I am typing inside my house and I am still cold and slightly uncomfortable, and I think of the people sleeping out in the woods, in tents, on mattresses under bridges in the town I live in, and I shiver for them.  I really want to involve myself in efforts to make these sort of living conditions as rare as possible.  So I have this idea I dream about, where I could make enough money to be able to fund what I call Homeless Assistance Centers.  They would be places of shelter for the homeless, but just having a place to stay isn’t enough usually.  Sometimes politicians will tout these gigantic projects of housing which are basically just warehouses.  They have a place to stay, but no social support, no connection to others in the community who can help them improve their situation.  They just warehouse the homeless and they end up getting back into things like substance abuse and other problems.  So, they need help in addition to just housing, such as employment, educational, mental health support etc.

So this is just a blurb on an idea I have, which I hope to be able to build upon and develop, with other volunteers and supporters who might be inclined to participate in something like this.  I hope maybe you will join me in trying to dream up and implement various ways to perform projects of charity for the poor and homeless and those in need of social support and assistance.
